SM-150 saw: the hand saw for cutting meat and bone in butcheries and slaughterhouses

In a crowded market of saws for cutting meat and bone, the SM-150 stands out as a tool designed specifically for pork cutting. It is a saw for butcher shops that works just as well in slaughterhouses and cutting rooms.

Choosing a saw for cutting meat and bone is not about picking the most powerful machine on the catalogue. It is about the weight the operator carries for eight hours, the depth of cut you actually need and how safe the blade is when the room is wet and busy.

The SM-150 was built around those three things. At 3.6 kg it can be handled with one hand, it cuts up to 50 mm deep and it carries guards around the blade as standard.

Light enough to work with all shift

The housing is nylon and fibreglass, which keeps the weight down and takes knocks without cracking. That matters more than it sounds: a heavier saw does not cut better, it just tires the operator faster, and a tired operator cuts less accurately.

The saw also has a suspension ring, so it can be hung from a tool balancer. With the balancer fitted, the operator guides the machine instead of carrying it.

Precision on smaller cuts

Its manoeuvrability is what makes it a favourite for pork cutting: it gets into smaller pieces where a larger saw is clumsy. The depth adjuster lets you set the cut so you go through the bone without damaging what is underneath.

Where it fits, and where it does not

The SM-150 is designed mainly for pork. If you work beef, the piece is bigger and the bone is harder, and you want more power and more blade: that is the SM-225/E, at 1500 W with a 225 mm blade and 75 mm of cutting depth.

Getting this wrong is the most common and most expensive mistake: a saw that is undersized for the species will not last, and one that is oversized will wear out the operator.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cutting depth of the SM-150?

Adjustable up to 50 mm. The depth adjuster lets you set exactly how deep you want to cut.

Can it be used for beef?

It is designed mainly for pork. For beef we recommend the SM-225/E (1500 W, 225 mm blade) or the SM-235-H (1800 W, 235 mm blade), which carry more power and more blade.

Can it be hung from a balancer?

Yes. It has a suspension ring, and the balancer we test and fit with it is the TECNA ref. 10.01.00, with a 2–4 kg capacity and 2500 mm of travel.
